Oregon Flute Store Catalog > Native American Flutes > Tu Trees Flutes by Ted Calavan Tu Trees Flutes by Ted Calavan
After sharing my flutes with my brother Ted in 1993 he became, like most of us, obsessed with creating his version of the perfect flute. Ted loves tradition and strives for perfection. He collects antique tools and built his own lathe out of an old trundle sewing machine. He still does most of his work by hand and I consider Ted one of the best carvers that I have ever met.
His carvings always capture the spirit of life. In 2004 Ted moved his family to Newport, Oregon, were he works for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and creates flutes with the sounds of the ocean ringing in his ears. They love their new home, but having lived in the forests of the Cascade Mountains for several years he laughed when he told me that his new home only has two trees. Thus the name! |
"I love my Laughing Mallard cases. I currently own four. They have traveled thousands of miles on the road with me. I've hiked with them down canyons and up mountains. I carried them in scorching heat, and driving rain and snow. When I'm on tour I never know what to expect, but at least I know my flutes are safe and sound. They're easy to carry, easy to load and have saved my flutes from getting damaged many times. Plus, they look great! I always get compliments on them." ~Scott August, Recording Artist Performer More from our customers... |
